Featured Speaker – Laura Bennett, Founder, Gosling’s Leap
Laura is a leading disruptor in the insurance industry, bringing her actuarial and entrepreneurial acumen to an industry that is ripe for transformation.
Through her consulting firm, Gosling’s Leap, she currently provides expertise in reinventing the insurance industry through product design and entrepreneurial disruption, and achieving results through people and culture.
Fourteen years prior, she co-founded and led Embrace Pet Insurance, leading the industry through innovative products and positive customer experiences. Over this time, Embrace went from 2 people with an idea to a 100+ person high-growth company, insuring over 100,000 pets with over $52 million annualized premium at the time Laura left. Embrace is known for its outstanding customer experience, its flexible pet insurance policy that provides coverage that pet parents expect, and the trust we built with our Embraced pet parents and strategic partners.
Prior to Embrace, Laura worked in various actuarial and leadership roles at a life and health insurance company in Toronto and Dublin Ireland for 12 years before obtaining her MBA from the Wharton School of Business where she graduated as Palmer and Siebel Scholars.
Laura was the first pet insurance actuary in the United States and was named to the Society of Actuaries Top 100 Actuarial Pioneers for developing the actuarial models behind the leading edge customizable pet insurance product. Laura was also the President of NAPHIA, the North American Pet Health Insurance Association, for four of the nine years she was on the Board of NAPHIA.
Laura is a big believer in giving back to the community that supported her through the years. She founded the Burning River Coffee Community, a Northeast Ohio mentoring community for female entrepreneurs leading high-growth-potential companies. She was also on the Advisory Boards of Bad Girl Ventures (now known as Aviatra), a non-profit that creates opportunities for female entrepreneurs through education and access to capital and Safeguard Guaranty Corporation, the first company in the world to offer marriage insurance.
